Tokyo Legacy Half Marathon gives accepted runners a memorable way to see the city: 21.0975 kilometres from inside MUFG Stadium, through Suidobashi, Jinbocho, Kanda, and historic Nihonbashi, then back to the same arena. The fifth edition takes place Sunday, October 18, 2026, with racing wheelchairs starting at 8 a.m. and the first running wave at 8:05. The course is certified by JAAF and World Athletics. Entry is limited to an 18,000-person field, and general applications have closed. Accepted runners must attend packet pickup on Friday or Saturday; there is no race-day collection.
Who should cross for this
Qualified recreational and competitive runners, charity runners, running clubs, and spectators.
The race offers a defined central-Tokyo endurance objective, while mandatory pre-race pickup makes its real trip-length requirement especially useful to long-haul visitors.
Suggested trip length: 4 nights, arriving in time for packet pickup
Plan the weekend around pickup
Packet pickup takes place at MUFG Stadium on October 16 from 11 a.m.–8:30 p.m. and October 17 from 10 a.m.–7:30 p.m. Runners must attend in person, so a Saturday-night arrival is too late. The adjoining EXPO stays open slightly longer on both days. Arriving Friday and preserving Monday for recovery makes the logistics gentler after a transpacific flight.
Standard entry cost JPY13,200, while qualifying students paid JPY6,600. The official English and Japanese pages show conflicting transaction-fee percentages, so rely on the amount in your registration checkout.
Choose a calm race-morning base
Sendagaya and Shinanomachi are both five minutes from the stadium on foot; Kokuritsu-kyogijo is closer still. Nearby hotel supply is limited, so Shinjuku is a sensible alternative with a larger selection and direct Oedo Line service. Allow extra navigation time inside Shinjuku Station.
The half-marathon cutoff is three hours from the first-wave gun, and entrants must be capable of 2:40. Spectator crossings and accessible detours can change with road closures, so use the final 2026 traffic guide rather than an older map.
Notice the city along the course
The out-and-back route moves through Tokyo’s book district at Jinbocho and commercial Kanda to Nihonbashi, Japan’s historic road-distance marker. Save sightseeing energy for after the race: autumn weather is usually mild, but the event runs in rain and race morning can still be warm, wet, or windy.
