More than author conversations

Previous festivals have combined readings and conversations with workshops, performances, family programmes, and work crossing artistic disciplines. That variety makes the format and language notes on each listing especially important. A translated conversation, staged work, and writing workshop can ask different things of an audience even when they share a subject.

The final programme should also clarify age guidance, content advisories, and whether interpretation or subtitles are available. Avoid relying on old schedules: the 2025 theme, guests, and programme count do not carry into 2026.

A festival with civic roots

The Arts House, in the former Parliament House, has often served as a festival hub, with earlier editions spreading into nearby museums, galleries, and theatres. Its history suits a festival concerned with public language and memory, although it has not been confirmed as a 2026 venue.

City Hall is therefore a sensible provisional base, with Bras Basah.Bugis and the Singapore River also close to the cultural core. Once venues are announced, group sessions geographically and leave time for queues and tropical rain.

Booking the right weekend

The ten-day run includes two weekends, but daily density is not yet known. Wait for the calendar before choosing flights around a particular author or assuming that one weekend offers more. November is wet and humid, so favor hotels and venues near MRT stations. Limited-capacity workshops and special performances can have different booking rules from general festival access.
