The 2027 BMO Vancouver Marathon is set for Sunday, May 2, with registration already open and capacity capped. Race weekend begins earlier: the Health, Sports & Lifestyle Expo runs Friday, April 30 and Saturday, May 1, the Kids Run is Saturday at 11 a.m., and the Marathon, Half Marathon, and 8KM share Sunday. If you are traveling for this race, the useful order is entry, lodging near the finish, then flights that put you in the city before Expo closes—not a Saturday night landing.
Who should cross for this
Destination marathon and half-marathon runners, 8KM and Kids Run participants, cheer crews, and international race travelers using Vancouver as a Pacific gateway.
Vancouver draws a large overseas field to a scenic Seawall-linked course; mandatory in-person Expo pickup, YVR arrival, and Canadian eTA/visa rules make early trip design essential for Asia–Pacific and other international runners.
Suggested trip length: 4–5 nights for overseas runners (arrive Thursday or Friday for Expo pickup); 3 nights possible for regional runners
Lock the weekend before the course gossip
Treat May 2 as the fixed race day and April 30–May 1 as mandatory logistics days. On Race Roster, opening prices with a shirt were listed at $155 for the Marathon, $120 for the Half, and $55 for the 8KM, with a green-bib option $10 less, plus tax and online fees. Those prices hold only until the next increase, and sold-out distances have no waitlist.
Packet pickup is an Expo task: bring photo ID, collect your own kit, and do not plan on race-day pickup. Expo is at the Vancouver Convention Centre; confirm the exact hall and hours in the 2027 runner materials before you book a tight connection.
Sleep by the finish, ride to the start
The published course pattern starts the Marathon and Half inside Queen Elizabeth Park and finishes on West Pender between Bute and Thurlow. The 8KM begins in Stanley Park near Lagoon Drive. That geography favors a downtown, Coal Harbour, or West End hotel for Expo and recovery, with a Canada Line morning toward Oakridge–41st or King Edward for the park start.
Host hotels are built around finish-line convenience. Exact shuttle lists, transit tickets, and road closures still need a 2027 recheck—use TravelSmart as a pattern, not a promise.
International runners: paperwork and buffer nights
Canada’s entry rules are citizenship-specific. Many air arrivals need an eTA; others need a visitor visa. Start that process when you register, and keep confirmation handy. A verified organizer invitation-letter program was not found on the public visitor pages.
Build buffer nights for jet lag and Expo. A Queen Elizabeth Park start can feel cool before the downtown finish warms up—pack a discardable layer. Recheck sellout status, checkout totals, and the athlete guide before you convert flexible holds into non-refundable plans.
