From Friday, November 27, 2026, through Sunday, January 3, 2027, VanDusen Botanical Garden is open 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. for its annual Festival of Lights. Last entry is at 9 p.m., and the garden is closed on December 25. The City of Vancouver says the show covers 15 acres and more than a million lights, with a Dancing Lights display that repeats every 20 minutes from the top of the hour. The one change worth knowing about is on the clock, not the grounds.

Who should cross for this

Families, couples, and winter visitors building a Vancouver evening around lights, food stalls, and an easy bus ride from downtown.

A reliable first-week-of-winter outing for visitors landing at YVR from Asia, with fixed entry times that fit around jet lag better than most late-night events.

Suggested trip length: One evening, ideally on a weeknight inside a 3–4 night Vancouver stay

Pick the entry time with sunset in mind

British Columbia has moved to permanent Pacific Time, and the City notes sunset will fall roughly an hour later than in earlier years. An early slot can leave the garden still gray at the edges; a later one gets darker skies.

Entry is by half-hour window—arriving late means arguing with a scanner, not slipping in behind the crowd.

Know what the ticket does and does not cover

Members must show a card; the member rate cannot cover friends. Required attendants of guests who need help enter free without a separate ticket.

Enter through the Visitor Centre and scan inside your half-hour window. No outside food or drink, no re-entry, rain or shine. Dress for wet gravel—a December night on the edge of Shaughnessy is damp.

Choose your night as well as your slot

Tuesday, December 1, is a sensory-friendly evening. The City says capacity is cut by half, audio is turned down, and flashing lights are switched off, which makes it a calmer visit for neurodiverse guests and their families.

If you do not need that format, midweek tickets are generally the easier choice than weekends close to Christmas. The garden does not publish crowd forecasts, so treat that as local sense, not a promise.
