Little Tokyo’s Market Closes at 2

The Saturday market is in Isamu Noguchi Plaza, at 244 South San Pedro Street, in front of the Japanese American Cultural and Community Center.

Every Saturday from October 24 through December 26, the stalls are up from 9 to 2. The center runs the market with Food Access LA. It was set up for Japanese American farmers, and for neighbors paying with SNAP, the food-benefit card. The card works at the stalls.

The center puts the walk from Little Tokyo/Arts District station at seven minutes. The A line and the E line both stop there. A tap on either train is $1.75.

Ipoh Kopitiam is a Malaysian café at 1411 South Garfield Avenue, suite 104, in Alhambra. Kenji Tang, the chef, poaches a Hainanese chicken and serves it cold, with three sauces and a mound of seasoned rice.

The café is on the MICHELIN Guide California 2026 Bib Gourmand list. Wednesday the door stays shut. The other days it opens at 9 and closes at 8:45. The guide describes a line at the door, and takeout tickets piling up on the counter. Give the door a few extra minutes.

The market ends at 2. The chicken in Alhambra is a different ride.

Finish the market before you start the drive. A Saturday trip to Alhambra takes a real stretch of the afternoon, and the kitchen is open through the evening, so the chicken can be dinner if the traffic runs long.

The stalls sell fruit and vegetables, the kind of shopping you can carry back to the train. A morning that ends at 2 can stop there.
