How to see the parade and festival

The parade runs Saturday from 11 a.m.–noon, beginning at Civic Center Plaza and following Market Street from Eighth to Fourth before ending at Yerba Buena Gardens. If you want both experiences, begin near Civic Center and move with the route toward the festival. For the grounds alone, the organizer recommends Powell BART/Muni; Yerba Buena/Moscone Station is another direct option.

Official 2026 descriptions promise traditional and contemporary music, dance, art, crafts, cuisine, artifacts, cultural pavilions, and Philippine products. Why Yerba Buena matters

Pistahan grew in the same South of Market geography where redevelopment displaced thousands of working-class residents, including Filipino families. Community organizing helped secure replacement senior housing and Filipino place names; San Francisco formally recognized SoMa Pilipinas as a cultural heritage district in 2016.

Filipino American Arts Exposition dates its founding to 1994, while community histories trace Pistahan’s Yerba Buena debut to 1993. Whatever founding date is used, Pistahan established a recurring public gathering for Filipino American art, memory, business, and community in an area profoundly changed by redevelopment. Organizers describe Pistahan as Yerba Buena Gardens’ first outdoor event.

SoMa or Yerba Buena is the easiest base for festival access, museums, and the Moscone area. Union Square and Powell provide a larger downtown hotel field and straightforward BART access from SFO. Bring comfortable shoes and a light layer; San Francisco afternoons can turn breezy even in August.
